The Ostankino tower dominates the North side of the city. Wherever you go in the capital north of the Mockba river you see this tremendous relic of the communist times. It is a legacy of the Soviet era having been utilised to transmit TV pictures across 12 time zones, all the way to Vladivostok on the Pacific coast.
