Having driven down to the Costa Brava for our Summer holidays last year. This year we decided to make the shorter journey, through the Mont Blanc tunnel to the Liguria region in Italy. The road between Genoa and Nice is spectacular, built into the Maritime Alps and sitting a couple of hundred metres above the sea – it really is a fantastic drive!! Bartolomei al Mare and Diano Marina are located just off this road, about 30 mins from Genoa and right on the sea.
The pictures below tell of our adventures on the Italian Med.
- Rita and Alex outside our hotel in Diano Marina. Literally, the sea was just a couple of hundred metres away.
- We were joined for a few days by our friends Sergey and Elena from Moscow. In the centre of Genoa – was actually quite beautiful!
- In the centre of Genoa with Sergey and Elena.
- Having a spot of lunch just metres from the sea.
- Just been on a boat trip. This is very near to the beach bar.
- Just down the coast from where we were is the quaint village of Cervo.
- A traditional, historical village. Since it’s built on a hill there are fantastic views down the coast and overlooking the sea.
- Rita just under Cervo’s fantastic and beautiful church. It is the focal point of the village and can be seen from miles around.
- Alex (Tsar of Wales) doing his impersonation of the leaning tower of Pisa.
- Alex demonstrating a great Russian forehand. He loved our table tennis matches – alas Wales emerged the holiday champions.
- This beach bar was our favourite in the evenings. Again, it was literally metres from the sea and to get there we had to walk along the beach.
- Since we were so close we had to visit the rich person’s haven that is Monte Carlo.
- There were some fantastic boats in the harbour or just outside. Not to mention some fantastic cars parked nearby – Ferrari’s, Maseratti’s and Lamborghini’s! Of course, Alex wants one – not sure if he meant the car, boat or both?
- Alex (Tsar of Wales) taking the harbour bend on the streets of Monte Carlo. He loved it!
- Rita and Alex looking very well towards the end of the holiday, in the twilight on the beach near our hotel.
