Summer ’15 – Cycling near Mont Blanc, just fantastic!!

August 16, 2015

About an hour from the chalet on the way to Chamonix is the picturesque Spa village of Saint Gervais. Here you can cycle along the valley roads and climb, Mont Arbois with purely amazing views of the Mont Blanc Massif (opposite) and the glaciers which cascade down towards the valley floor. It was the first time we had spent some time in St.Gervais so we took the opportunity to take the Mont Blanc Tramway upto Nid D’Aigle at 2380 metres, as well. It is one of the highest train routes in Europe and gives you access to the fantastic Bionnassay Glacier and the hiking routes upto the Dome de Goutier (just under the Mont Blanc peak). It also gives you just fab views of the Chamonix valley and the surrounding area.

After a hard day in the saddle we can also thoroughly recommend an evening in the Spa Thermes situated in Le Fayet, just down the road from St. Gervais itself. Sitting outside in the warm, natural waters which rise up from the ground below is a great way to sooth sore and tired muscles. In the Alpine twighlight surrounded on all sides by steep, forest is purely magic. Afterwards you can stroll through the main square of St. Gervais and sample one of the many brasseries and bistrots which line the streets and enjoy some fine  Alfresco dining and maybe a glass or two of vin rouge!!

Here are some of the experiences and views:

When the warm sun comes out, a little hiking is in order

June 7, 2015

Spring has seen some variable weather with temperatures being in the late 20s some days in May. But, then snow has been falling other days and the surrounding peaks to the chalet have all been white!

June though has been glorious – sunny and warm, every day so far! Such days are just perfect for a liitle walking in the hills. Here are some great shots that Rita took – in and around ‘Le col de Ratti’ (near Graydon), Seytroux, ‘Le Col de Corbier’, and ‘Le Vallee de la Manche’.

All are within striking (by car) distance of the chalet……..
