Another season begins at Chalet Margaritka!! » Tom and Alex – Just below ‘Hauts Forts’, high above Avoriaz
Tom and Alex wanted to go off-piste. HONEST!
Monday was one of those perfect days that happen quite often in the Alps. Having snowed heavily overnight, the sun came out half way through the morning. This gave us the opportunity to ski down the ridge that runs parrallel to the ‘Arrets Des Intrets’ chair which comes out of Avoriaz to the highest point just below ‘Hauts Forts’ (2400 metres). As you can see we weren’t exactly surrounded by companions. Absolute BLISS and the powder was GOOD too. As we desended further below Avoriaz we even found some sections where no previous tracks had been made. PURE HEAVEN!! Think it made the guys weekend although Sally was a bit worried when only two of us appeared through the trees by the chair where we agreed to meet, way below Avoriaz. She needn’t worry Tom had stopped to simply readjust his boots. We had dropped over 1000 metres in good powder, with virtually no-one around us. The beauty of the ‘Portes du Soleil’ – We could always here the feint, hum of the chair in the background if we or the guys needed any reassurance. A good, well deserved lunch was had at ‘Chez Flo’ back up in Avoriaz that day.
We all had a fantastic weekend and were very lucky to have super snow on Monday. Thanks to Glynn for excellent guiding and to Rita for great food & drink.
