The Kremlin
The Moscow home of many Tsars, centre of government for the Soviet Union and the current President of Russia – Dmitry Medvedev. Originally created in the 12th century, the stone walls were erected in the 14th century. In these historical times the Kremlin acted as a city within a city. It covers a vast expanse of land in central Moscow which is surrounded by a huge wall emphasised by the fact that it has 19 towers. Inside the walls there are four palaces, one senate/ governmental building, 4 cathedrals, 2 churches, an armoury containing the equivalent of the Crown Jewels, Arsenal museum and Chamber with further state art and treasures.
